Hey, I did see your post about one of the tropes that RonToto has. According to you, aside from "Eating the Eye Candy" trope, what is the other tropes (either underrated or not) that you think RonToto is fitting in, and why?

Dear anon, thank you for this ask. I didn’t forget your ask. Bit of an airhead, I didn’t know where to start.

Anyways, the most obvious of all is Akira’s use of height differences. Tumblr popularised this trope a decade ago to describe two characters with glaring height difference, tol/smol. I don’t think it has to do with being dominant or submissive, but both Toto and Ron have these qualities.

The Red Oni, Blue Oni. In this particular trope, Toto Isshiki is defined as the red oni:

A red oni is associated with passion, wildness, and defiance. A Red Oni character is often more brawny than brainy, extroverted, enthusiastic, determined, and filled with a zest for life. They are also much more likely to break conventions and rules than their counterpart. Often an Idiot Hero or, in more mature pieces, a Boisterous Bruiser. If a Red Oni is indeed noticeably intelligent, they will still be much more wild and impetuous than the Blue Oni and/or with less sophisticated thoughts, feelings, or goals. Generally speaking, they're more people-oriented than goal-oriented (although both Onis can be either). They may or may not shrug off criticism about themselves or their aims and goals, but say or do something nasty to their closest friends and you've just guaranteed yourself a world of pain.

… The Red Oni, while usually the more passionate and emotion-driven, may be the more easy-going and flexible of the two.

On the other hand, Ron is the typical Blue oni.

The Blue Oni is associated with serenity, control and observing authority. A Blue Oni is more intellectual, proud, traditional, introverted, and cultured (sometimes more spiritual, although that's not guaranteed), if a Blue Oni is indeed physically strong, they tend to be Genius Bruisers, with the calm, collected intelligence of a typical Blue Oni character combined with the physical prowess of a typical Red Oni character. Blue Oni personalities are often respected by others, but also likely to puzzle, confound or even intimidate their peers because they are difficult to read and have a mysterious quality to them.

It is also amusing that if you go on reading the trope there’s also a purple Oni. In this particular manga, it could be none other than Spitz Feier.

So far, that’s what I think they are. Subject to change once I find out more tropes. Thank you so much for waiting.

Lucifer's moan sent another jolt of pleasure through Chloe as she aggressively kissed him back and continued soaping him up, which was starting to falter because FUCK he was a good kisser. She was lucky he was holding her up or else she probably would've fallen and hit her head. However, she had no idea she'd backed him up against the wall until she heard a THUMP and then bumped into him. She was lucky she didn't make HIM fall, given how awkward he was standing given that the shower doubled as a bathtub. She peeled her lips off of his and rested her forehead against his, struggling to catch her breath. "You okay?" she breathed, bringing a hand up to his face and lovingly stroked it.

"Right..." It made sense. Chloe was just as nervous to mess things up as Lucifer, so if anything, he was more understanding than ever of a human's feelings. Because this was his human, and they shared equal responsibility here, which meant neither of them should burden the pressure alone. "...I must say, you make overthinking look incredibly sexy." Levithan (He/Him): Demonic Overlord, Son of Lucifer, Sin of Envy. You'd expect a guy with that description to be pretty full of himself, but instead he seems pretty tired and over-worked. He's been tasked by Lucifer to infiltrate H.E.L.L. alongside you- why? It's anyone's guess at this point. (Possible Tropes: bickering couple, tired x energetic, tol x smol)

Yavhi Gupta (They/Them): Stubborn, rude and cold-hearted. They've been working for H.E.L.L. since they were able to join, and they're one of the toughest, roughest demon hunters around. They don't joke or play around, they go straight for the kill each time. Unlucky for you then, that you've been assigned to train underneath them for the foreseeable future. (Possible Tropes: enemies to lovers, opposites attract, black cat x golden retriever)

Raquel (She/Her): Fierce, witty and loyal to the end. When her best friend left Heaven, she followed right after. Now, she works as a detective alongside him and they've been hired by an outside source to investigate The Morningstar's Children, as H.E.L.L. can't seem to do anything right, and she'll do anything to find out the truth; even if it means teaming up with a lowborn like you. (Possible Tropes: fwbs to lovers, smart x dumbass)

Gabriel (He/Him): Quiet, yet lethal and dangerous. He left Heaven for a reason, but now works alongside his friend as a detective. He's the brawn of the operation, but just as willing to do anything to get the truth... even if you get the feeling he knows more than it seems. (Male MCs only. Possible Tropes: Mutual pining, star-crossed lovers, quiet x loud)

Lucifer Morningstar (She/They): As the Sin of Greed, she's the father (mother?) of all the other deadly sins, and the current President of Hell- though with reelections soon, and her subjects looking in their son's, Satan's, favor, that might change soon. Which is why they sent you on the quest to take down H.E.L.L., so her rep would get a serious boost. She's conniving, scheming and pantsuit wearing, and will stop at nothing to keep her spot on top. (And I love her.)

Michael (They/Them): The most powerful Archangel of them all, it was obvious that one day, they'd become the humans savior, their saving grace.. uh, not really, but they love the praise. Recently however they've been under fire from the human media after a slip-up resulted in the deaths of six people, but they managed to save grace by capturing and promptly executing a few lowborns connected to The Morningstar's Children. (Which, In Raquel's professional opinion, puts them right at the top of her list of suspects.)

Shae (She/Her): A vampire and the one who hired Raquel and Gabriel after the kidnapping of her son Damien at the hands of The Morningstar's Children.

who reaches out to new neighbors: Unexpectedly… Maze! She keeps tabs on who comes and goes even better than Lucifer and is even faster than him at going for a snoop, it was her job to watch his back for a long time after all, ansd she watches out for Trixie too now (does the same for Linda and Charlie). The neighbors are probably confused and concerned like “is the scary lady part of the family??”. Chloe then makes Lucifer, Dan and Trixie come with her do a normal greeting-the-neighbors thing. But because Lucifer is Lucifer it turns out in another interrogation without the neighbors noticing (Maze is good at figuring out if they’re shady but Lucifer finds all the juicy, dirty little secrets). Chloe and Dan have to steer him away.

who remembers to buy healthy food: Since Dan started working on the abs he’s been keeping an eyes on his food more carefully and trying a healthier eating pattern too, except he tends to forget a lot when it’s time to restock. Chloe is better at remembering the list they make in time and following it so Dan writes down the stuff and Chloe reminds everyone when it actually has to be bought. Lucifer just wants to order whatever they need. But they want for Trixie to grow up doing normal stuff like groceries runs. They probably regret it when Lucifer turns out to be just a very tall Trixie and they just try shoving whatever they fancy inside the cart and it’s a constant battle (but he’s also easily disarmed by like, hand holding. Chloe reaches over and grabs his hand and he just spends the whole time looking down in wonder at their hands and looking up at Chloe with a big grin. Dan pushes the cart with Trixie balances either in front of it or between it and Dan and occasionally getting him to speed down an aisle). He does win them over some times they’re all ran to the ground by a case and the idea of crawling out of the house is physically painful.

who remembers to buy junk food: Lucifer, Trixie and Dan have the biggest sweet tooth ever (Lucifer has varied tastes while Trixie inherited Dan’s more focused tastes except it’s chocolate cakes instead of puddings, they sometimes vary but those things reappear frequently) and Lucifer and Trixie like junk food in general so no one ever forgets about restocking it. This time Lucifer definitely orders it (especially the pudding, between all the stealing it runs out fast at the precinct).

who fixes the oven when it breaks: Dan is that Dad™who insists on trying to fix things himself to teach Trixie to be self-reliable except sometimes it’s stuff he doesn’t actually know how to fix so he googles it or asks around and it’s a hit or miss. He either patches it up until the next break or fuckign destroys the thing (with familiar things he’s better). Also I like to think it’s a Dan thing in general, like “I can do this myself!!” except sometimes he overestimates and it ends up with a “oh no. oh fuck” (he gets steadily better at accepting help). Chloe is like, “Baby please just call a professional, they exist for a reason, you can teach Trixie how to fix a shelf or something” and she’s got 4 numbers ready from the start. Lucifer is a “throw the whole thing away” guy because he uses it as an excuse to renovate and add something new. But he lets Dan huff around because it’s amusing (and seeing Dan get to work reminds him he’s seen a few pornos starting like that, so another thing to add to his fantasies fodder) but he’s also curious about any parent-daughter interaction. So the whole thing takes a turn for the wholesome seeing Dan trying to explain stuff to Trixie (he still fantasizes about sweaty Dan in a tanktop grunting and wiggling his ass in the air to check inside the oven later).

who waters the plants/feeds their pet(s): Their lives don’t really match up with a pet but they’ve got plants and Chloe is their lifeline. She goes away for a fun Tribe thing and tells everyone to water the plants. They all forget. The day she’s scheduled to come back they panic, “Can’t we just put a lot of water all at once??”, cue Trixie accidentally making a few vases overflows and Chloe comes back to them frantically mopping the floor (it gets funnier the smaller number of plants they have).

who wakes up earlier: Lucifer can’t not sleep but he can get by on minimal sleep, so he often wakes up and lays in bed blissed out enjoying snuggling with his loves. Wake up as in up and leaves the house, it’s Dan. He either hits the gym or the beach for surfing most mornings before work so he’s up real early. Chloe and Lucifer roll around and go back cuddling.

who makes the bed: Lucifer always neatly tucks it in before leaving the house if he’s the last one to go (very fussy devil, he likes making messes but he also likes having everything restored to tidyness after). Chloe is more of the ‘just haphazardly pull the covers up’ before leaving type (mostly to set  somewhat of a good example for Trixie). Dan barely bothers and is the one that always forgets when it’s actually time to change the covers.

who makes the coffee: Lucifer is the one cooking most times so he also makes breakfast and has always coffee ready for Dan and Chloe when they wake up. He’s neutral on it but he starts drinking it regularly because he enjoys when they’re all standing against the counter and Chloe and Dan have these sleepy expressions with half lidded eyes but they sip on the coffee and smile or hum happily against the mug (it’s small cozy moments like these that make him feel all fluttery and content inside, the Devil likes to be painfully domestic). He knows exactly how they take their coffee but he’s also real good at figuring out what else they’d like so he’s always making them trying fancy new stuff for fun and he basically always hits the mark).

who burns breakfast: Chloe and Dan try to make something extremely elaborated for Lucifer because he’s always cooking for them but they have it in over their heads (and are trying to be quick and silent) and end up burning something while. When Lucifer smells burning stuff he comes barrelling into the kitchen ready for a fight and Trixie trails after him. He’s like, very touched. But then either stirs them away so he can whip up himself the thing they botched, or they still sit him down and feed him waffles or pancakes or something else they know how to do with thier eyes closed. Lucifer loves the idea of preparing stuff for them and surprising them with new things, but also just kicking back, eating whatever they set in front of him and licking syrup off his fingers while one of them stands nearby and absentmindedly runs a hand back and forth through his hair and down his neck… is very nice. He probably falls asleep like that at least once. He doesn’t faceplant in a waffle just because he’s seeking out the hand even in his sleep and doesn’t slump forward too much. It reminds Dan and Chloe of Trixie when she was very little.

how do they let each other know they’re leaving the house: Dan bellows everyone’s names and then “I’M LEAVING! BYE!” from the door loud enough to wake the dead. Answers vary gretly depending on the hour he does it (from loving responses from around the house to threats of physical violence if he tries breaking the sound barrier one more time at the ass crack of dawn if he leves early). Chloe pokes her head in whichever room they are and “Guys I’m going!”. Lucifer forget to say anything sometimes but never leaves without a kiss or some nuzzling.

how do they greet each other when one of them gets home: Dan bellows (again) “I’M HOME” as soon as he opens the door. Chloe just says “Hi!” at a normal volume once she’s fully inside. Lucifer barges in screaming “DeeeTeEECtiIIVeeeES” until he finds some of them to kiss. It’s a Thing for him apparently, goodbye kiss and welcome home kiss.

who brings home little gifts like flowers/chocolates more often: Lucifer is always getting Dana and Chloe little trinkets and gifts. He started out with more extravagant stuff but they managed to get him to tone it down a little. They vary from sweet or funny to “I know this must be a sex toy but what the hell is it supposed to be exactly??”.

who picks the movie for movie night: They wrote down a ton of movies and put them in a bowl to avoid bicker over it for an entire hour. If Trixie partecipates they let her choose something age appropriate she likes.

their favorite kind of movie to watch: Dan and Lucifer love action flicks (the bloodier and full of ridiculous explosions, one-liners and half naked people the better). Lucifer gets into cheesy romcoms with Chloe (it becomes a shared guilty pleasure, they look for the very outrageous ones). Trixie becomes a sci-fi buff growing up.

who first suggests a pillow fort: Oh man Dan and Trxie are all over it (personal hc that is was sometimes Dan always liked but in his family he got at a certain age where they decided he was too old for it, so they didn’t make them with him and he was embarassed to do one by himself and get caught, so he’s the most enthusiastic next to Trixie and never makes her feel like it’s a thing just for little kids). And angels nesting is a thing in every fandom with angels so it reminds Lucifer a lot of a nest so he gets a little weird about it at first because it reminds him of his sibligns and the Silver City, but gets very into it after a while (which later brings him to feel a little dristessed when they bring the whole thing down, which leads to them helping him build an actual nest).

who builds the pillow fort: In the Decker-Espinoza family Trixie gives directions and Dan and Chloe are the certified builders. With Lucifer thrown in the mix he goes for the aesthetics and so the first color coordinated pillow forts are born, he adds some flair.

who tries to distract the other during the movie: Lucifer with Trixie present = constant running commentary and continuous “pet me” requests (he loves his cuddles but if they get distracted and stop he prods at them until someone starts petting hair or running their hands over his back again, like excuse me! attend to me!). Lucifer without Trixie = naughty wandering hands (he’s very good at multitasking and will try to offer commentary of a movie in the middle of giving oral).

who falls asleep first: When she has a case Chloe is always very keyed up so she drops as soon as she hit the pillow. Lucifer makes an effort to wait for Dan to also fall asleep. He likes knowing they’re all safe and comfortable dozing off near him, and likes falling asleep to the sound of that deep breathing of the dead to the world sleeping.

who is big spoon/little spoon: Lucifer absolutely craves the shit out of being in the middle, something about having someone on his back and front makes him feel incredibly safe and loved and makes sleeping so much easier. Chloe and Dan are very versatile on that front so they swap a lot between being big and little spoon when it’s comfortable to be all squished together.

Things I’ve learnt while binge watching Hawaii Five 0 during lockdown...part 5

20.  McDanno is REAL.

How do I know McDanno is real???  I’m made like a detective and I detected.  

I will look at my Smol like this because he is my Smol...

One small example of a cargument...where the Smol yells at the Tol for being a goof...

Where the Smol gives the Tol a vital organ - that’s true love, right?

Hugging - like full body hugging...

Couples therapy because sometimes the Smol is very angry with the Tol and the Tol likes to argue back because the Smol is super cute when he’s mad.

Only the Smol can calm the Tol down when the Tol wants to be all Super SEAL and get the bad guys NOW!!!

Sometimes the Smol does not understand the Tol’s fashion sense - or lack thereof. 

Even in the coma induced future the Smol sees himself with his old Tol - just arguing in their deck chairs on the beach.

Lots of casual touching and hugging and naked skin holding...the Tol likes to tuck his Smol under his arm, that way he knows where his Smol is and he won’t lose him.

Okay but seriously. I know no one here knows me, but believe me, I NEVER ship. Ever. I have watched all the shows and read all the content with the Big Ships - Destiel, Drarry, Stucky, Stony, Ten/Rose, Johnlock, the works - and I dunno why, but I am just programmed not to see anything romantic. Like, I can see why some might, but I NEVER see it.

Until this dumb tol neanderthal animal and his dumb smol angy detective.

I’ve never been able to jump in on the fun with shipping before, but I have this time, and it’s been fucking awesome. I can’t believe it took me so long. Like, I knew about the existence of McDanno, because I am a human and have been in fandom, but I never bothered to watch the show because I assumed McDanno would be another of the ships above - sure, they’re friends, but I’m not gonna see anything.

But NO. This has been among the most fun I’ve had in all my history of fandom, and I’ve been around a while. I LOVE this ship. I may be late to the party, but I’m dancing like a maniac here and this has made me so happy that for the first time I feel like I can participate.

Thank you all you fandom trailblazers, who have ensured that I’m coming in to the fandom with literally thousands of fics to read - we all know Steve turned around at the end there after getting Danny’s sweet text and in true Rachel from Friends fashion appears behind Danny on that beach saying “I got off the plane” don’t we! The fun’s not over yet for me and that’s thanks to the wonderful content creators.

Thaluke (Thalia x Luke)

1. Who is the early bird/Who is the night owl? Luke is the early bird, Thalia is the night owl. 

2. Who is the big spoon/Who is the little spoon? Thalia’s the little spoon because she’s smaller. 

3. Who hogs the cover/Who loves to cuddle? Luke is a huge cover hog and they both love  to cuddle. 

4. Who wakes the other one up with kisses? Luke. Always Luke. 

5. Who usually has nightmares? Both of them. They’re demigods, after all. 

6. Who would have really deep emotional thoughts at the middle of the night/Who would have them in the middle of the day? Thalia has them at night because she’s usually the one who’s awake. Luke has them in the middle of the day but generally keeps them to himself. 

7. Who sweats the small stuff? I’m going to be honest, I have no idea what this question means. 

8. Who sleeps in their underwear (or naked)?/Who sleeps in their pajamas? Thalia usually just sleeps in shorts and a bra, Luke sleeps in pajama bottoms but shirtless. 

9. Who makes the coffee (or tea)? Luke. He knows exactly how Thalia likes it and always has time to make it for her in the morning because he wakes up first. 

10. Who likes sweet/Who likes sour? Thalia loves sour like nobody’s business, but Luke can’t handle it. He doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth either, though. He prefers bitter or salty things. 

11. Who likes horror movies/Who likes romance movies? Both of them hate romance movies with a passion. Thalia is big into horror and Luke likes it but not as much as she does. He prefers action or thriller. 

12. Who is smol/Who is tol? Thalia is smol, Luke is tol. 

13. Who is considered the scaredy-cat? Usually neither of them, but when it comes down to it, Luke. 

14. Who kills the spiders? Neither of them, they don’t mind spiders. Unless Annabeth is coming over. Then it’s Thalia. 

15. Who is scared of the dark? Neither of them. 

Jasper (Jason x Piper)

Frazel (Frank x Hazel) 

1. Who is the early bird/Who is the night owl? They’re both early birds, but Hazel gets up at dawn, so a little earlier. 

2. Who is the big spoon/Who is the little spoon? Hazel is always the little spoon because Frank is worried that if she tries being big spoon he’ll lean back and hurt her on accident. 

3. Who hogs the cover/Who loves to cuddle? Frank tends to be the cover hog because he has more body mass to cover. They both love to cuddle, though. 

4. Who wakes the other one up with kisses? Neither because they wake up so close to each other, but there’s always a good morning kiss that involves Frank literally picking Hazel up because that’s adorable.

5. Who usually has nightmares? They both have them, but Hazel has them more often, about her past and dying the first time. 

6. Who would have really deep emotional thoughts at the middle of the night/Who would have them in the middle of the day? Frank for both. However, he usually keeps them to himself out of embarrassment. On the rare occasions when he does share them, Hazel finds them adorable.

7. Who sweats the small stuff? Still no idea. 

8. Who sleeps in their underwear (or naked)?/Who sleeps in their pajamas? Frank sleeps in pajamas and Hazel sleeps in a baggy t-shirt she stole from Frank. 

9. Who makes the coffee (or tea)? Frank tries but then he ends up having some sort of accident and Hazel has to help him. 

10. Who likes sweet/Who likes sour? They both prefer sweet, however Hazel can tolerate sour. Frank can’t.

3. Who hogs the cover/Who loves to cuddle? Ethan hogs the cover. He also pretends to hate cuddling but he loves it. 

4. Who wakes the other one up with kisses? Neither of them. They’re pretty lax when it comes to PDA for the most part. 

5. Who usually has nightmares? Both of them but more often Ethan. 

6. Who would have really deep emotional thoughts at the middle of the night/Who would have them in the middle of the day? Alabaster has them during the day and Ethan is always like Gods, my boyfriend is an idiot, but then secretly has similar thoughts himself late at night.

8. Who sleeps in their underwear (or naked)?/Who sleeps in their pajamas? They both sleep in pajamas. Ethan’s usually incorporate a hoodie or shirt he stole from Alabaster. 

9. Who makes the coffee (or tea)? Ethan makes his own (black coffee with salt instead of sugar), and Alabaster also makes his own (earl gray tea). 

10. Who likes sweet/Who likes sour? Ethan hates sweet things. He loves sour, bitter, and salty stuff. Alabaster doesn’t really care. 

11. Who likes horror movies/Who likes romance movies? Just like Thalia and Luke they despise romance movies with a passion. Ethan’s into horror and psychological thrillers, while Alabaster prefers sci-fi or detective genres. 

12. Who is smol/Who is tol? Ethan is an angry smol and Alabaster is his tol. 

13. Who is considered the scaredy-cat? Neither but they both like to call each other that when teasing. 

14. Who kills the spiders? Alabaster. Ethan will sometimes, but only if he feels like the spider has done something to inconvenience him.

Perachabeth (Percy x Rachel x Annabeth) 

1. Who is the early bird/Who is the night owl? Annabeth is an early bird, Rachel is a night owl. Percy is a permanently exhausted pigeon. 

2. Who is the big spoon/Who is the little spoon? Percy is the big spoon and Rachel is the little spoon with Annabeth as the middle spoon. 

3. Who hogs the cover/Who loves to cuddle? Percy is the cover hog. Annabeth loves to cuddle, she’s surprisingly clingy when it comes to her partners. 

4. Who wakes the other one up with kisses? Percy on the rare occasion that he wakes up before his girlfriends. 

5. Who usually has nightmares? Percy and Annabeth because of Tartarus. 

6. Who would have really deep emotional thoughts at the middle of the night/Who would have them in the middle of the day? Percy. Always Percy. And, being ADHD, he has a tendency to blurt them out with no restraint, causing Rachel and Annabeth to facepalm.

9. Who makes the coffee (or tea)? Annabeth since she always wakes up first. She bought custom-made mugs with everyone’s names on them so they can tell their cups apart since they all like the same type of coffee. 

10. Who likes sweet/Who likes sour? Rachel and Annabeth both like both, Percy loves sweet and can’t handle sour to save his life.

11. Who likes horror movies/Who likes romance movies? None of them are big fans of horror, but Rachel and Annabeth aren’t into romance either. Annabeth loves documentaries and Rachel likes musicals. Percy is big into Disney and animation, and sometimes he gets into Annabeth’s documentaries if they’re about ocean animals. And romance movies are a guilty pleasure for him.

If Freddie had lived, he would have co-founded Five-Oh with Steve, seen how Steve got all rattled by the hot short jersey detective...hell maybe even in bed with Freddie, called out Danny's name when getting railed and then had an internal panic thinking he fucked things up with Freddie but the next day Freddie presents Steve with a seven step plan on how to properly seduce Danny and get him into their bed, and that's why Freddie was killed off. The actors all had insane non-straight chemistry with one another. If they had let Alan meet or be in the same screen as Scott...then Alex would have a tol and smol snarky, sassy blond and would probably get too many accidental boners at being flirted with and they'd never finish shooting.

Freddie would challenge Danny and not one to back down, it could all probably lead to the best free gay porn Steve's ever seen that made him cream his pants as if he were a teen again.....

I do wonder what would of happened if Freddie lived. Especially since a lot of people (including myself) Have that headcanon that Steve had feelings for Freddie? But whether it was mutual was a different story. At least that’s the way I did personally saw it.

Freddie could be a great right hand man, though. But if he had lived (and lets day Steve did love him in that way) then what about his feelings for Danny? 🤔

Or they could just all get in bed together and that would solve all the problems. The end! Lol.

Motherland: Fort Salem. Musical analysis for Raelle and Scylla

It is no secret (unless you did not know that the Original Score for MFS exists and if you didn’t, it does and you should go listen immediately) that there is a track named Raelle & Scylla on the score. If you didn’t know that, then this is more interesting. More below the cut - in case you don’t care or don’t want to be spoiled.

The track “Raelle & Scylla” is the music that plays when Raelle and Scylla take Salva for the first time in the Pilot.

In the majority of the Raelle and Scylla scenes that follow (typically ones that are Scylla emotionally conveying a message) this musical theme always plays. It is not exactly the same as the first time, but very clearly the same notes are played.

We hear it in Episode 2, when they are walking in the graveyard

Twice in Episode 4. First after Raelle leaves the infirmary and Scylla is relieved she is okay.

That’s this season SO FAR. But there’s more:

While everyone has probably guessed that next week during Salva training Raelle is going to be filled with grief over Scylla being missing, we can confirm this by turning to the Original Score. The track “Missing Salva” starts with this same thematic music, so for sure we will hear this theme at least once in Episode 6 and it will represent the heartbreak Raelle is feeling from Scylla [potentially] having been “killed”. When I first listened to the score after episode 1, this gave me chills that they so seamlessly conveyed this message with music.

Also in the score (MAJOR SPOILER) is a track called Scylla Revealed. While we probably all guessed this would happen eventually and the majority of this track is the sound of the Spree, the last few seconds are… Raelle & Scylla’s musical theme. Again, I got actual chills when I first heard this 4 weeks ago, knowing nothing about what was going to happen. Because of this, I’m guessing Raelle will witness either Scylla revealing herself with fire or her carrying out some sort of Spree order (I would love the former) as opposed to being told by Tally or Anacostia. 

I’m so excited about the depth of this show and the little details they put in. I’m going to keep track of every scene where I hear this theme and I’m guessing it will reveal some foreshadowing in hindsight after the end of the season.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 6, Up is Down

As predicted we were gifted with the beauty of “Missing Salva” this episode but this was not the only time we heard Raelle and Scylla’s Musical theme this week. In fact, we heard it three times - what appears to be a record for number of appearances in an episode.

The first time we hear it is during Salva training on base. This is actually the original Raelle & Scylla track from the original score but slightly more raw towards the beginning

*Sings* So you think you can flyyyyy

The second is extremely subtle but the theme plays when Scylla contacts Raelle, interlaced with music that conveys hope

The only time giving your S.O. a rash is sexy and appreciated

And finally, the third time is our “Missing Salva” track. Beautiful, heartbreaking, chill giving. But also; drugs are never the answer, kids. Remember, you are important, you are beautiful, don’t push away the ones who love you. They will be your wings to help you soar.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 7, Mother Mycelium

Is everyone okay after this episode? I’m pretty sure I’m still dead (no captions for these, they all caused to much pain). Another beautiful and heart breaking week - let’s go over our theme moments. This week brought us the next big track containing the theme: Scylla Revealed. Like last week, we get to hear the Theme three times even though our girls are apart; further solidifying their connection.

The first time the tune graces our ears is when Raelle is looking up at Scylla’s room. Everywhere she looks she sees (and hears) Scylla. This version is slow and depressing and makes it seem like Raelle is really starting to believe Scylla might actually be dead.

The second is during their reunion in the dungeon when Raelle finally says, “I love you”

And the third, as expected, comprised the ending of Scylla Revealed

Seeing Raelle made Scylla’s mind vulnerable and cracked her open (like an egg). All Scylla can think about now is Raelle, even after she has just been forced to reveal her most terrible secrets about herself. This pain we see here is not that Scylla’s mind betrayed the Spree, it’s that she lost Raelle in the process.

This is the last score track that contains Raylla’s theme. Perhaps we will hear Scylla Revealed again when Raelle discovers the truth? But I can guarantee this isn’t the last time we’ll hear our tune.

EDIT - An update following Episode 8, Citydrop

Raelle is reeling after discovering both that Scylla is alive but also may be a member of the Spree and it shows in their music this episode. After rewatching, I only detected their theme once, and barely. When Raelle is remembering their reunion, the theme is ever so subtly hinted at. In fact, I would argue it doesn’t even get the chance to be fully realized. 

I really think this is the only time we even remotely hear it in this episode. And even here it is not obvious at all, and I think is indicating the emergence of Raelle’s doubts about how much she truly knows about Scylla. We know by the end of the episode Raelle is really beginning to question what is real and what isn’t. But we will definitely get it again in Episode 9 as more truths and feelings are revealed.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 9, Coup

The pain is real this episode and we hear Raelle and Scylla’s theme three times, though technically two of these three are in the same scene. Specifically, when Raelle goes to see Scylla one last time in the dungeon, their theme book-ends their reunion but in two different tones.

At first, it is soft but laced with sadness. Reflecting the pain of Raelle and the sadness of Scylla for realizing Raelle may be lost to her.

But at the end, it becomes harsher and more dissonant as Scylla pleads for Raelle to know her love is real. That she chose her over everything else. They are both raw, just like their music. 

And the third time is by their tree, when Raelle admits that she is still in love with Scylla. Here is it deeper and resonates. And it lifts up just as Anacostia tells Raelle Scylla’s love is real. Just a bit at the end but just like in the first scene when their feet leave the ground after taking Salva. It’s laced with hope and Anacostia’s words fill Raelle’s heart with hope.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 10, Witchbomb 

HOLY. SHIT. Well that was an epic finale. So much happened. With Raelle and the unit being immediately deployed, and Scylla still in the Dungeon, there was no time for goodbyes for our Necro and Healer. To be honest, I was really nervous that Raelle & Scylla’s theme was completely absent from the finale. But our faith can be renewed because Raylla’s theme does indeed make a small appearance making it 10/10 episode wise this season. 

Now when Raelle pleads with Anacostia to have the military go easy on Scylla,  that she’s not all bad - I listened to that scene so many times, side by side with others and I can’t confidently say that the Raylla theme was used in any capacity. That being said, I also can’t say that it isn’t there in the bare minimum. I’m pretty sure most of the music in the scene with Anacostia, Raelle, and Tally is more closely related to the Blue Rose Friendship theme but it is possible the Raylla theme is interlaced ever so slightly while Raelle is talking to Anacostia about Scylla... but I’m not calling it completely due to lack of confidence. 

Where I am more confident in the appearance of the theme is when Anacostia sets Scylla free and tells her to hold on to the part of her that’s good. The music is bare bones minimal and only during this exact moment. It’s just the core notes that drive the theme home but they are stripped and bare and it makes complete sense because Scylla has lost so much, perhaps even lost Raelle, but what she does have left is the goodness that Raelle instilled in her. And she still has her love for Raelle. 

So Raelle and Scylla may be in limbo relationship wise, but the love is real and the part of Scylla that’s good is Raelle. otp: No matter what happens.
